Urban Fox Folk Club Re-launches this April!

On 4th April 2012 Urban Fox Folk Club will re-open its doors at a new home at The Bulls Head in Moseley, Birmingham.

Join us upstairs for an energetic night of Birmingham-grown folk fun!

Check out the line up…

Holliday St

We’ll kick the evening off with a special acoustic duet performance from Holliday St (www.hollidaystreet.com) who’ll bring their mix of original Americana/Blues/Country influenced songsl with arrangements of old songs of the Deep South.

Sylvia

Here’s a bit about Sylvia (www.thsiissylvia.com) from their website ‘…In the summer of 2009, Sylvia disembarked to Rathea in Co Kerry, Ireland to begin recording their debut album. In a converted turf shed by the coast, the band set to work using what equipment they had to hand. After a brief diversion to the Green Man Festival, they returned to Moseley where the recording continued apace. The band began to experiment with sounds, layering a diverse array of household objects into the textures of the music, from wine-glasses, to Chinese health balls…’

The Bonfire Radicals

Breaking boundaries, consuming soup and defying gravity- The Bonfire Radicals are a testament to the fact that Folk Music didn’t die at The Free Trade Hall. Formed by percussionists George Kirkham and Lydia Glanville in October 2010, with the aim of bringing together some unique musical personalities, The Bonfire Radicals have gone from strength to strentgh. With performances at Moseley Folk Festival and Symphony Hall Birmingham under their belts and the first demo cd recorded the future looks bright.Watch this space!

“there’s nothing high-falutin’ about the glorious mess of noise they make together!”

- Andrew Cowen, Birmingham Post

“their musical complicity and obvious enjoyment of each other’s company suggests there’s something raucous smouldering away beneath that wholesome façade”

- Moseley B13 Magazine

Last minute gig announcement! Patch and the Giant at the Prince of Wales in Birmingham city centre.

With support from Hannah Fathers, Monday 6th June at 8pm, free entry.

This is very short notice we know, but there’s a good reason…..after many attempts not to and much wrangling we’ve had to move venue at the last minute as our regular one double booked…so, here’s a map to the lovely Prince of Wales :)

Patch and the Giant play lovely self-penned songs and Hannah will be debuting some of her solo stuff that she’s been working on quietly – this will be an evening of firsts with our kind new hosts pitching in at the last minute.

And look, they have CD’s!!

Hope to see you there – watch out for an email over the next few months as we work out where we’re going and what we’re doing in the future, exciting plans are afoot…

The Katrina Grinhofa Trio and Bechod

Hello hello, its been another long while but to no avail, good friend of Urban Fox Kathryn Hill has organized a gig with us, check it out below:

Kathryn is in her final year at Birmingham Conservatoire and has tasked herself with organising this gig as part of her fourth year major project. She has given two newly formed bands (including her own, Bechod) a platform to perform that they could struggle to find otherwise in a bid to promote new music on the Birmingham scene.

A bit about the bands:

The Katrina Grinhofa Trio

Katrina Grinhofa, PJ Wright, Mat Davies, and Edd Frost (Little Jonny England, The Dylan Project, Clarion) are a new and exciting band forming from several experienced, well known and well loved musicians. They come together tonight in this line up for the first time with a view to recording an album in the coming months.

Bechod

Iestyn Evans , Merry Evans, Rebecca Park, Mary Stokes and Kathryn Hill formed as a band in October 2010 as part of Making Music South East’s project/course – Form a Folk band. Over a three month period, they were coached by elite musicians of the folk world, including; Jim Moray(Jim Moray); Pete Flood (Bellowhead); and Paul Sartin (Bellowhead, Belshazzar’s Feast). They took the knowledge that was passed on and formed Bechod. The band has recently been in the studio to record their f demo with the aim of getting a few gigs festival slots, with some success, having already have gained a slot at the Oxford Folk Festival.
